Right Motion: Selecting the correct hose is critical

Motion Fluid Solutions says it excels at providing top-tier industrial hoses, crucial for the food and beverage industry due to their flexibility and robustness.

The careful selection and proper application of the correct hose is paramount in this sector, as unsuitable use could lead to issues such as contamination – risking not only lost stock but also significant production downtime.

An inappropriate hose can lead to the leaching of construction materials into the product, altering its colour and flavour. If such issues go unnoticed, they could necessitate the recall of an entire batch or product line.

Specialising in industrial hoses for the food and beverage sector, Motion offers an extensive range of valves and fittings.

“We maintain excellent relationships with businesses across the food and beverage industry, including dairies, breweries, and wineries, who seek reliable hose solutions,” says Miles Benjamin, national technical manager for industrial hoses at Motion.

“Our presence is strong in numerous cities and towns throughout New Zealand. With affiliations with several international suppliers and access to our Australian operations, we are well-equipped to swiftly address the specific needs of our customers.”

One such offering, ideal for all food and alcoholic beverage producers, is the IVG Millennium LL rubber suction and delivery hose. This hose, coupled with Motion’s complete stainless steel sanitary fittings solution, is designed for medium duty food, wine, beer and spirits suction and delivery applications containing up to 96% alcohol.

The benefits of this hose is that it is lightweight and flexible, making it easy to use – particularly in food and beverage manufacturing where manual handling of hoses can pose occupational health and safety (OHS) concerns.

Manufactured in Italy, this flexible hose is taste-free and odourless, free from phthalates and IPA. It conforms to EC 1935/04 and EC 2023/06, FDA tit.21 art.177.2600 for aqueous and fatty foods, and meets 3-A Sanitary Standards n°18-03 class II, BfR XXI Cat.2 foods, and D.M. 21/03/73 for aqueous, fatty foods and alcohol up to 96°, specifically pertaining to rubber materials intended for food contact.

“All our products possess necessary certifications, such as FDA approval, crucial for consumable products. Choosing Motion guarantees peace of mind with products that are safe, rigorously tested, and meet the highest standards,” says Benjamin.

Jonathan Arkley, North Island industry support manager at Motion, says: “The IVG Millennium hose has been a real workhorse for us. We have customers that need a reliable food hose that they can trust to perform in varied applications within their plants, and the IVG Millennium provides a great balance of flexibility, strength and product contact suitability, as well as coping with CIP cleaning at the end of each production run.”

Motion has been working with nationwide consulting firms, specifying IVG Millennium at the project design phase. As those projects transition from design to reality, Motion can then utilise local teams to manufacture the assemblies and provide onsite technical assistance during the build stage.

Additionally, with Motion’s Exaro hose management system, the team can track the hose assets and conduct annual pressure tests on hoses used in critical applications.
